Notes to answerer

neutral  Oliver Simões: "Bequeath" is to leave property by will, which is very unlikey in the case of a university. The curator(s) of the collection perhaps could bequeath, not the university itself. See https://n9.cl/l0w8z9 and https://n9.cl/78vay

disagree  philgoddard: You haven't given any references, and I believe this is the very opposite of the correct meaning. And no, assets are bequeathed when a person dies - universities don't die.

acquired

Explanation:

In this particular context, it makes more sense to think of the animal collection as being received by the university and therefore owned by it. More context would be needed to derive a more accurate translation.

neutral  philgoddard: You've given exactly the same reference as me, but 15 minutes later. It says 'possui ou recebeu' - I think the latter is more likely, since it's someone else's collection given to the university, perhaps after they died.

patrimoniar / ado
receive/d as an endowment

Explanation:
ProZ Rules state that askers ought wait 24 hours before grading.

o acervo foi patrimoniado pela universidade : the estate had been received as an endowment - rather than simply 'acquired' by the University.

Example sentence(s):
  • University endowments are comprised of money or other financial assets that are donated to academic institutions. Charitable donations are the primary source of funds for endowments.
