barefoot Explanation: See footnote 9 here, which is the text you're translating. http://books.openedition.org/etnograficapress/3759?lang=en#f... I don't really understand the explanation, but perhaps someone can clarify it. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 23 mins (2023-12-20 17:15:20 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The footnote says Sapatos do senado: a sola dos pés, os pés nus. O senado é a câmara municipal, que manda calçar as ruas. |

- who could well travel on/by Shanks's pony - (to maintain the lyrical theme) Explanation: (the litle sh*t of the boy) who could well travel on/by Shanks's pony- (to maintain the lyrical theme) ha ha!!! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 19 hrs (2023-12-21 11:54:00 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- It doesn't necessarily mean that the young tyke is barefoot, but that he is completely able to walk by himself, were it not for the interfering old hags who had nothing better to do than poke their noses in! I've witnesses similar incidents on the metro but i wont go into details :-) The onlookers should mind their own f*cking business, it's got nowt to do with them! I feel sorry for the donkey! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 19 hrs (2023-12-21 12:13:20 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- PS.
