German term or phrase: Ertragslage
Hi,

This is from a 2022 annual report.

Bei geordneten Finanz- und Vermögensverhältnissen verfügt die Sparkasse nach Auffassung des Vorstandes der Sparkasse über eine zufriedenstellende ***Ertragslage***.

The KudoZ glossary has "earnings". But then, if all accounting were about distinguishing between assets (V) and earnings (E), why do we have a VFE-Lage then? That's a third entity coming into the picture, really. Also compare sentence above. I was even considering "cash flows".

Best regards,
Sebastian Witte

agree  Susan Starling: When used in a general sense as in the link provided, or if they're IFRS financial statements. The Bundesbank actually uses "results of operations" in its financial statements, which I suspect is what will be relevant here too. Hi Annette :)

general level of profitability & earnings

Explanation:
VFE = Vermögens-, Finanz- und Ertragslage ? it's not very clear from the question, as at conferences where all of us are expected to know obscure or hip abbreviations and acronyms, but financial position, cash flows and financial performance would IMO switch the emphasis away from a dull-thud "results of operation" (HGB) vs. "financial performance" (IFRS).to a journalistic turn of phrase, such as a general level of profitability or earnings:

... verfügt die Sparkasse nach Auffassung des Vorstandes der Sparkasse über eine zufriedenstellende ***Ertragslage*** > the Savings Bank (BrE: Building Society), in the opinion of its Board of Directors / Governing Board / commands (features / boasts / is erved by) a 'satisfactory level of earnings and pofitability'.

  • Vermögenslage = Financial position Finanzlage = Cash flows Ertragslage = Financial performance
