'azen' op is the infinitive of this verb where 'aasden' op is the simple past of it. The stem is the infinitive minus -en, so 'az-' and the basis for d or t in the past, but as it does not retain the same sound 'aa', it changes to the I-form 'aas'. Therefore 'ik aasde op' with a d according to the method above, but still the s is pronounced as a z. There are more of these strange things like 'ik slibde' where we would pronounce it [ik slipte], 'het water ebde weg' for [het water epte weg]. |
