I have no idea. I don't even understand the question.

Which surveys? High demand for what, and how do they know? How many is "many"?

Pass.

3-cent jobs May 2

As a ProZ member, aren't you at the receiving end of the many bcc email bombings with generous offers such as 3 cents per word? I get several a week, at least; sometimes several a day.

In my language pair, it’s the 1 cent.

I don't think you'll want them May 2

Never mind the 'some surveys' state-of-the-art method for gathering reliable facts, there probably is a fraction of translation jobs that never gets done.

Given the ease of advertising jobs all over the Web, there is probably a good reason no one wants them.

This is how I'd edit the poll statement May 2

Some surveys show despite high demand [citation needed], many translation jobs remain unfilled [citation needed].

I just saw a translation recruiter elsewhere say she got three times as many translation applications as expected. Then I saw this.

How do you know these jobs were not filled? May 2

Seriously, how do you know these jobs were not filled?
As far as I know, being flagged as filled is not automatic. The person responsible for posting the job needs to put an "expiration date" on it or close it (as far as I know).
So we are discussing the sex of angels here.

Some surveys? Many jobs? May 2

We're discussing ... well ... I really don't no what! It's just like saying "Someone said some offers are not taken. Is it true?" Doesn't make sense at all.
At least give a link to these surveys and specify what translation jobs are meant here. Jobs posted on ProZ? Or anywhere? Give me a break

What about asking those handing in poll proposals to clarify what they mean when the questions blatantly make no sense?

Some jobs do not have great rates and tasks. May 2

Some jobs have changed a lot, at least for me. I see AI writers, AI testers, and many other job positions that are not fascinating and do not give you an opportunity to improve your professional language skills.

On the other hand, I love the comments of many people about this poll. They have been funny, despite this unfortunately low rate of jobs in the marketplace. My advice is not to be worried; be happy. You will find the job that you are looking for. I have done it, so you will

I do wish May 3

I wish I could be optimistic and think many translation jobs remain unfilled because translators are refusing to accept peanut rates by agencies who do not deserve the name of agency but slave drivers but i stand to remain deluded so I just cannot fathom why they remain unfilled. My experience is that if I do not accept those rates, there will surely be someone who will accept them, but I refuse to work at slave rates.

High demand? Unfilled jobs? May 3

Now that work has been more irregular than ever, I would also like to know where these unfilled job offers are and, above all, what language combinations they involve, although I fear I may not be able to fill them. Occasionally, when I see jobs posted on Proz by translation agencies from some Asian countries offering ridiculous rates, I check, just out of curiosity, if they have any responses, and to my astonishment, they sometimes collect dozens of quotes, especially for English/Portuguese...

All of the above May 4

I stopped paying my Proz.com sub after a few years as a subscriber due to everything that was said above: delusional low rates, agencies predating more and more, the fact that everyone thinks he or she can be a translator thanks to [insert online app name here], scam attempts and, of course, the fact that Proz.com does bupkiss to fight something that is in its best interest. I mean, if the largest online translation marketplace in the world thinks it's a good idea to not fight scammers and bottom feeding, I myself think it's a good idea to save some 160 or so euros per year.

High demand? Yes, there is a high demand of massively underpaid "work", but we all know best and ignore it. Why should I sell my Ferrari for a sixth or seventh of its cost?

Moreover, just today I got another scam-attempt email from some low-life that perused Proz.com's directory of translators and got my email address from the list. I mean, Proz.com is basically sleeping. You're unaware of what us translators endure everyday, be it from Middle-Eastern/African/Chinese (and sometimes even European and American) agencies proposing ludicrous rates to scam attempts (that are getting more common each day). You're unaware of what "precarious revenue" means, and I am referring to some 98% of my colleagues, me included. You're unaware of how difficult it is to make a living doing what you love most when you're spat at and ignored. Even by yourself, Proz.

I am currently in the process of changing trade after 15 years as a serious and acknowledged translagor much because of Proz.com's inertia and uninterest in creating a better marketplace. As long as it works for Proz.com, right? I'm not even bitter, believe me, I'm just relieved that I am leaving the job that I love most to focus on the second job that I love most.

Instead of trying to understand why is it that no one works for 3 cents p/word, understand that you'll eventually have no professionals subscribed to Proz.com unless you start making serious changes.

All the best.
