Hello everyone
I have just been awarded a job in Phrase with 15 000 segments (40 000 words). Phrase displays the entire file as one long file in the browser. It would be great if I could tell Phrase to show me only segments 1-1000, 1001-2000, etc. It would make the CAT tool faster... as at this time, due to the sheer size of this file, typing and moving from segment to segment is incredibly slow.

It also takes about 2-3 seconds for TM and fuzzy matches to appear every time I move to a new segment, so I'm not sure if that is normal or if that has to do with the file size.
Thanks

The lag is most likely due to the large file size and possibly a heavy TM(s). Unfortunately, filtering by segment number isn't possible in the web app. To improve performance, I suggest using the desktop editor (it handles large files much better), that's what I usually do when working with big files. Alternatively, you can ask the PM to split the file into smaller parts. | | | Zea_Mays Italija Local time: 04:53 Member (2009) English to German + ...
The only thing that comes to mind beside splitting is filtering the job by various elements like repetitions, confirmed/not confirmed, tags, empty/not empty, fuzzies etc. if applicable. If enabled, it's a good idea to also disable automatic QA in the preferences.
Having large jobs displayed on one page is actually a big flaw of Phrase. | | | Samuel Murray Holandija Local time: 04:53 Member (2006) English to Afrikaans + ... TOPIC STARTER

There are about 10 TMs connected, and several of them are quite large, yes.
What's more, the client employed creative accounting: they created a TM that contains a machine translation of each segment, and penalized that TM by 30%, so every segment has at least a 70% match... which of course brings down the "weighted word count". So the actual word count is actually higher than what the handoff email says. What irks me most about this is not the hidden discount but the fact that I can't just blindly insert the highest fuzzy match and be certain that the inserted text will reflect the client's previous translations' style. So, I guess the client cares more about cost saving than about consistency within their product range. | | | There is no moderator assigned specifically to this forum.
