Hello, have you ever worked for the Spanish publishing company Alianza Editorial? They have just contacted me for a huge job. In the mail, their rate is 0,40$/word, which seems important. How can I be sure they pay me once they have my translated work ? Thanks for your help

Too good to be true May 15

$0.40/word ... today? I would be most cautious.

Sure...

Just because someone states to be from a certain company, this doesn't mean it is true.

Why don't you get in touch directly with Alianza Editorial? I'm sure they will tell you it's a scam. O,40€/word? I wish! A few minutes ago an author has offered me 0.01€/word...

suspicion of fraud May 15

Thanks to all for your replies.
Here are their terms :
"(1) Translation rate: $0.40 per word, you can also give us your rate as well,if doesn't work for you
(2) Working days: Weekdays would be suitable, but the project timeline is flexible if needed.
(3) Payment: Upon completion and delivery of the translated manuscript"

What is strange is the rate in dollars, whereas the company is in Spain; moreover, the sentence "you can also give us your rate as well,

probably a scam May 15

You are right, it is probably a scam, the phone number does not match, it is in the USA, and the email address has a double "l". They have copied.pasted the logo and the legal information. It seems professional but it is not. Thanks a lot!

Alianza Editorial is one of the old and big publishers in Spanish > https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alianza_Editorial

As per their website > https://www.alianzaeditorial.es/ they are part of Grupo Anaya > https://www.grupoanaya.es/
They have many imprints > https://www.grupoanaya.es/editoriales

Of course, it's a scam! Just do some basic googling, for sake.

It would be awesome if anyone from Anaya would contact me out of the blue to offer me a translation job for any rate (even 0.005 per word), which would make my year. LOL

@All May 20

It seems that scammers have stopped posing as translation agencies and now prefer to target publishers...
