Disodium XXX is a potent inhibitor of osteoclastic bone resorption. In vitro it binds strongly to hydroxyapatite crystals and inhibits the formation and dissolution of these crystals thereof. In vivo the inhibition of osteoclastic bone resorption may be due, at least partially, to the binding of the drug to the mineral bone substance.
XXX suppresses the access of osteoclastic precursors to the bone and subsequent transformation into mature reabsorbent osteoclasts. Nevertheless, in vitro and in vivo, the local and direct antiresorptive effect of biphosphonate bound to bone seems to be the predominant mode of action.
Experimental studies have shown that XXX inhibits tumour-induced osteolysis when given before or at the time of inoculation or transplant with tumour cells. The biochemical changes that reflect the inhibiting effect of XXX in tumour-induced hypercalcaemia are characterised by a fall in serum calcium and phosphate and secondarily by a reduction in the urinary excretion of calcium, phosphate and hydroxyproline.
Hypercalcaemia may cause a reduction in the volume of extracellular fluid and a reduction in the glomerular filtration rate. By controlling hypercalcaemia, XXX improves the glomerular filtration rate and reduces elevated serum creatinine levels in most patients.

Dinatrijev XXX snažni je inhibitor osteoklastične resorpcije kosti. In vitro, snažno se veže za kristale hidroksiapatita te inhibira njihov nastanak i otapanje. Moguće je da do inhibiranja osteoklastične resorpcije kosti in vivo dolazi, barem djelomično, zbog vezanja lijeka na mineralnu tvar kosti.
XXX suzbija ulazak prekursora osteoklasta u kost i kasniju transformaciju u zrele osteoklaste koji vrše resorpciju kosti. Ipak, čini se da je lokalni i izravni antiresorptivni učinak bisfosfonata vezanog za kost glavni način djelovanja in vitro i in vivo.
Eksperimantalna ispitivanja pokazala su da XXX inhibira osteolizu izazvanu tumorom kada je primijenjen prije ili istovremeno s inokulacijom ili transplantacijom stanica tumora. Biokemijske promjene koje odražavaju inhibitorni učinak XXX-a u hiperkalcemiji izazvanoj tumorom obilježene su smanjenjem kalcija i fosfata u serumu i, posljedično tome, smanjenjem izlučivanja kalcija, fosfata i hidroksiprolina u urinu.
Hiperkalcemija može uzrokovati smanjenje volumena izvanstanične tekućine i brzine glomerularne filtracije. Kontroliranjem hiperkalcemije, XXX poboljšava brzinu glomerularne filtracije i snižava povišenu razinu kreatinina u serumu većine bolesnika.

Med je prirodan pčelinji proizvod složenog kemijskog sastava i zanimljivih fizikalnih i bioloških svojstava. Premda sadrži mikroorganizme u dormantnom stanju, odlikuje se snažnim antimikrobnim učinkom. Suvremena medicina sve obilnije koristi antimikrobna svojstva meda u terapiji rana različite etiologije, na primjer inficiranih kirurških rana i kroničnih venskih ulkusa. Sve brojnija klinička istraživanja izvještavaju o uspješnom korištenju medicinskih pripravaka meda u liječenju inficiranih rana kod kojih je prethodno bezuspješno korištena antibiotska terapija. Premda su potrebna dodatna istraživanja, sasvim je jasno da će zbog odličnih rezultata, ekonomičnosti i zadovoljstva pacijenata uporaba meda uliječenju rana zauzimati sve istaknutije mjesto u medicinskoj praksi.

Honey is a natural bee product, with complex chemical composition and interesting physical and biological properties. Although it contains dormant microbes, honey has a strong antimicrobial effect. This effect is increasingly used in modern medicine for treating wounds of versatile etiology, for example infected surgical wounds and chronic venous ulcers. Numerous clinical trials have reported successful usage of medical-grade honey for treating infected wounds in which antibiotic therapy had previously been unsuccessful. Though additional research is needed, it is clear that usage of honey will take a notable place in medical practice due to excellent results, being economic and to patient's satisfaction.

Protocol title: A Multicenter, Multifactorial, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Dose-Finding Study of XXX and YYY in Combination Compared to Monotherapy in Adult Patients with Essential Hypertension
This study is considered research because, although the study drugs XXX and YYY, have individually been approved by the Regulatory/Health Authority to be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure lowering (antihypertensive) drugs for the treatment of essential hypertension, the optimal dose(s) of XXX and YYY used together possibly in a future fixed-dose combination product for the treatment of essential hypertension has not been established yet.
What is the drug being tested?
XXX is an antihypertensive (blood pressure lowering) drug which belongs to the group of drugs called calcium channel blockers (CCB). XXX relaxes (widens) your blood vessels (veins and arteries), which results in a decrease of blood pressure and at the same time makes it easier for the heart to pump and reduces its workload. XXX is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain), respectively. XXX has been approved by your Regulatory/Health Authority for use in this condition and is sold under the brand name 111].
YYY, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), antagonizes the influence of certain substances found in the body that make blood vessels to constrict. This effect dilates constricted blood vessels and ultimately lowers blood pressure. YYY is a drug which has been approved by your Regulatory/Health Authority for the treatment of hypertension and heart failure, respectively, and is sold under the brand names, 222, 333, 444, and 555.

Naslov protokola: Multicentrično, multifaktorijalno, randomizovano, dvostruko slepo, placebom kontrolisano ispitivanje za određivanje doze XXX i YYY u kombinaciji u usporedbi s monoterapijom kod odraslih pacijenata sa esencijalnom hipertenzijom.

O leku koji se ispituje

XXX opušta (širi) Vaše krvne sudove (vene i arterije), a posledica toga je snižavanje krvnog pritiska. Istovremeno, srcu se olakšava pumpanje i smanjuje njegovo opterećenje. XXX se koristi za lečenje hipertenzije (visokog krvnog pritiska) te angine pektoris (bolova u grudima). Korišćenje XXX u ovim stanjima odobreno je od strane Vaših regulatornih/zdravstvenih organa te se prodaje pod zaštićenim imenom [111].
YYY, blokator angiotenzin II receptora, suzbija uticaj određenih supstanci koje se pojavljuju u organizmu, a potiču sužavanje krvnih sudova. Ovaj efekat širi sužene krvne sudove i u konačnici snižava krvni pritisak. YYY je lek koji su Vaši regulatorni/zdravstveni organi odobrili za lečenje hipertenzije te popuštanja srca, a prodaje se pod zaštićenim imenima 222, 333, 444 i 555.

My wife Bibijana and I are medical doctors experienced in writing and translating scientific and medical texts. Currently, I work as an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Osijek where I obtained my PhD, and Bibijana used to work at Scientific Research Unit of University Hospital Osijek and Health Center in Vukovar. The two of us also enjoy working as freelance translators. We started translating in 2009 and as of 2015 Bibijana has become a full-time freelance translator.
