впору

русский => английский Искусство/Литература Журналистика An article
Между тем её уже перевели на иностранные языки, продают и в Париже, и в Берлине, и в Нью-Йорке, инсценировали и поставили в театре, на автора посыпались издательские предложения – ***впору*** менять профессию.

Заклинило...Struggling with this word..."it was time to..." doesn't seem to quite fit the meaning. I need your helping hands ;). Thanks!

Neither would I :) Still considering other options.
Mikhail Kropotov Oct 24, 2014:
I wouldn't use "high time."

Quite agree with you here, Evgenia. But how about "One might as well"? Anyway, English native speakers maybe will find something more adequate for this context?

I think, what is meant here is not "Ей впору" but "Любому впору". This is what is meant by "One". Saying it in other words: Тут любому впору задуматся о смене профессии. That was the connotation, I think - "Generally speaking". "Впору" in this meaning is always impersonal! She might as well has another shade of meaning (оттенок значения)
Note from asker:
Yeah, I thought about the "high time," but it doesn't seem to quite convey the meaning... I thought something like "It seemed to be the high (right) time to..." would do the trick...yet, I'm still in doubt...
Natalia, thanks for the food for thought :)! Yes, let's pass the microphone to native speakers :).

agree Alexandra Schneeuhr : Первый вариант нра. А относительно "high time", которое вы обсуждали с Женей, м.б. добавить еще вариант с "about time"?

Thank you, Alexandra. Maybe...
agree Susan Welsh : Just to even things out between Natalia and Mikhail, since they both clocked in at 8 min. with the same answer.

to immediately change profession (before something more disastrous might happen)

in this context.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Alexandra Schneeuhr : Erm... I wonder where does "immediately" come from, leave alone "something disastrous"? An author's success is hardly a disaster, isn't it?

disagree The Misha : It's ungrammatical, it's too long and it totally lacks the natural flair of the original. Eew.

a change of career seemed called for

I "seemed called for" think this sounds slightly more natural in English in this context
Peer comment(s):

neutral The Misha : Doesn't that "seemed called" bother you? It's almost a tongue twister in its own right.
