Blähversuche

German to English Other Construction / Civil Engineering Kilns - clay production
The document describes a modernisation process for a kiln and analyses the quality of the " Ton" which is produced in the plant. There are 4 graphs which are titled "Blähversuche mit Ton, Belgorod(the plant)". Could anyone help me with the correct translation for Blähversuche in this context, TIA.

swelling tests/experiments

Bucksch, Dict. of geological engineering, gives “swelling index” for “Blähzahl”

Googling for “swelling+clay” led me to this article:
"A MODEL OF CLAY SWELLING AND
TACTOID FORMATION"

bloating experiment

Note from asker:
Hello Uta, thank you for your suggestion. The client preferred swelling/expanding as opposed to bloating.
