“Human culture is so funny,” Her master mused as they left the establishment, Oleander too far behind their heels to hear what they were saying. “Look at this. They put all the important events on this piece of paper and distribute it through their towns. I do hate to admit it, but it’s quite endearing.”

Petra glanced at the newspaper. Big, watery letters on the cover announced something about festivities and a pronouncement by the king just in a few days, in the capital, but her master wasn’t looking at it. He thumbed through several paragraphs of smudged ink with little interest until he reached the very last two pages.

“Look! They have a ‘quiz’. Whatever do they mean by quiz?” His frown deepened, and he read out loud: “Which member of the Royal Guard are you? …How very odd. Do they find this entertaining?”

The two of them walked in silence through the cobblestone streets for a bit longer. Petra’s master still had his face buried in the newspaper, but she knew him well enough to know he wouldn’t waste his time with newspaper quizzes.

“Ha! According to this piece of paper, I’m someone called ‘Ser Poppies’. Pff. Poppies.” He nearly cackled. “You are good and kind-hearted. Even though you don’t always make the best decisions, your friends will always support you in them. Romance will come your way one of these days. Oh, I do adore this. Humans are finally doing something right.”

Petra blinked at him.

There was so much she didn’t know.

Letras grandes e aquosas na capa anunciavam algo sobre festividades e um pronunciamento do rei em apenas alguns dias, na capital, mas seu mestre não estava olhando para isso. Ele folheou por vários parágrafos de tinta borrada sem muito interesse até chegar nas duas últimas páginas.

— Veja só! Eles tem um “teste”. O que querem dizer com teste? — ele franziu o cenho ainda mais, e leu em voz alta: — Qual membro da Guarda Real você é? …deveras esquisito. Eles acham isso interessante?

Os dois andaram em silêncio pelas ruas de paralelepípedo por mais algum tempo. O mestre de Petra ainda estava com o rosto enterrado no jornal, mas ela o conhecia bem o suficiente para saber que ele não perderia seu tempo com testes de jornal.

— Hah! De acordo com este pedaço de papel, sou alguém chamado “Sir Papoulas”. Pff. Papoulas. — Ele quase grasnou. — Você é bom e tem um coração gentil. Mesmo que você nem sempre tome as melhores decisões, seus amigos sempre lhe apoiarão no que escolher. Romance aparecerá no seu caminho qualquer dia desses. Ah, eu adoro isso. Humanos estão finalmente fazendo algo certo.

Petra piscou para ele.
