Не, не подкормить). Одно тесно связано с другим. Выполнение научной программы помогло реализовать проект, так как в ходе прикладных исследований были получены определенные результаты.

Интересно, а и в исходнике есть какие-либо намеки на то, что "реализация проекта" способствовала "выполнению научной программы" (и наоборот)? Или "проект" никак не вписывался в "научную программу" и его реализацией занялись только для того, чтобы "подкормить" научных сотрудников?

Что лучше написать.
