Russian term

суд чести

Russian to English Science Science (general)
A scientific institution is investigating an allegation of falsification of data and this body issues the findings.
"Court of honor" just sounds wrong for such a body, at least in the US. Is this simply "Board of Inquiry" or is there another,
commonly-used term in such organizations?

board of inquiry seems to be OK

Here is a quote from a page "Scientific Misconduct":

The Chair of the VMI Research Committee will select a panel of tenured faculty members to serve as a Board of Inquiry. The Chair of the VMI Research Committee will conduct the procedures but will be an ex officio member. Individuals serving on the Board of Inquiry will be selected to avoid potential conflicts of interest. An individual may be excused by a majority vote of the Board upon the request of the individual under investigation. As necessary, the Chair of the Board of Inquiry will appoint a tenured member of the faculty to replace any individual so excused for the purposes of the investigation.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "It would have perhaps been more helpful if I'd pointed out that this is a Russian using a familar Russian term talking about a case of scientific fraud in the US. I think Kirill's answer sounds on the money and is specific to this case, not to mention being well-documented, as usual! :-)"

I think it would do nice for non-military contexts. "(Officers) court of honor" would fit best in the military contexts. The name here implies an inquiry by peers...

if you necessarily want to avoid "Court of honor" (Re.: Russian-English Dictionary over 160 000 words & expressions, 1997, ISBN 5-200-02419, Russian-English Dictionary, 34 000 words approx., Arakin, Soviet Encyclopedia Publ.
