I don't think "intoxicated" is quite appropriate here, or if it is I can't quite think how to use it. (I think it was Churchill who once said of a member of Parliament: "The honourable gentleman is intoxicated with the exuberance of his own verbosity", which is a nice phrase but quite irrelevant).

: nice phrase -- very true for many politicians. Is "to be on top of te world" appropriate for Katya and Andrei's case? :) ADDED: Russian is more modest here, we don't need 9 and are satisfied with only "7th" heaven ;) "На седьмом небе от счастья"

On tense you have to decide whether or not to tell the story Russian style, i.e. with past events in present tense. Putting the past in the past is more common in English. Yes. Glorying would work too.
