200 for blood pressure and 3 sotkas outside the city limits. Then explain sotka as a unit of area with a negative connotation of being smallish and almost piddlish. Here's the link for гектар, from which сотка is - of course - 1/100.

I would play up the 200 and 300 - some have hundreds in dollars and rubles, others have high hundreds in blood pressure and low hundreds in square footage of real estate.

If you have scruples about the actual size (an acre is small but still about ten times the three sotki in question) but don't want to break the rythm, just put "a tiny/wee plot"

Huh! They claim no less than the eternal bliss as the redemption for their righteousness. As for me I'd settle for a moderate climate and an adequate supply of beer and sausage for, as the Aussies tend to call the eternity, quoit some toime.
neutral Angela Greenfield : I would like to have an acre, Michael. 3 сотки is more like 3X3 meters. It is very little. 6 sotkas was the usual lot size in the Soviet times, i.e. double of what the author mentions.

sotka is about 1/33d of an acre,I admit(not 3x3, but 3x10, approx).But is it essential here?I thought the rythm was,and 300sq.m. breaks it something awful.One can just put "a tiny plot", then.

thank you! a sotka is 10x10m (or 100sq m) plot of land. I converted 300m sq, its 0.03 hectares. her is an example http://www.zem.ru/lot/73/ hope i convinced you :-)

Meaning they were active and willing to share (send packages, etc), despite the fact that they weren't exactly healthy and didn't really have much to share in the first place.

Yes, of course, otherwise there would be no need to таскаться к поезду. Deliveries could be easily received at home. Plus there's the contrast between having little themselves and still sending out gifts. Otherwise the woman wouldn't make that reference.
