Without knowing the company background, it sounds as if it is aiming to ramp up its line to the mass-production stage, as opposed to manufacturing products in single units. I don't see why you shouldn't keep the word 'unit' in the English.

The firm itself seeks (or aims) to change from a venture enterprise handling individual unit production (or just "unit production") to a system device (instrument) manufacturer that assembles these parts.
