1) Der Anulus fibrosus (lat. anulus, kleiner Ring) in der Bandscheibe ist ein Ring aus Faserknorpel, der den gallertartigen Kern (Nucleus pulposus) umgibt. Er sorgt dafür, dass der Gallertkern im Inneren der Bandscheibe bleibt, um seine stoßdämpfende Funktion zwischen den einzelnen Wirbelkörpern ausüben zu können. Reißt der Anulus fibrosus aufgrund von degenerativen Prozessen (Verschleiß), tritt das Bandscheibeninnere aus dem Kern aus und drückt auf die Nervenwurzeln des Rückenmarks. Dann spricht man von einem Bandscheibenvorfall.

penultimate vertebrae (L4 or S4) or the annulus of the intervertebral disc L3/L4 or S3/S4
I understand that the penultimate vertebrae has been broken as vertebral disc cannot break but herniate or prolapse.
