German term

bei dieser häufig hormonell assoziierten Erkrankung

German to English Medical Medical (general)
Hello ProZians,

Having a bit of difficulty deciphering the second part of this sentence, taken from a medical report of a teenager:

Am ehesten handelt es sich u. E. bei den beschriebenen Episoden um eine Migraine ophthalmique, wofür bei dieser häufig hormonell assoziierten Erkrankung auch der zeitliche Zusammenhang mit der Menarche sprechen könnte.

My attempt:

In our opinion, the episodes described are most likely ophthalmic migraines, a frequently associated hormonal illness, which could be suggested by the temporal relationship with menarche.

I'm also wondering if, instead of menarche (as far as I am aware, the first period), it means just period.

Thank you for your suggestions!

disorder that is frequently hormonally mediated (see the entire sentence below)

First off, menarche is not the same as the period. It's the 1st period in a girl's life.

One way of phrasing it is as follows:

In our opinion, the episodes described are most consistent with ophthalmic migraine, a disorder that is frequently hormonally mediated; this suspicion is further corroborated by the temporal association with the menarche in this patient.

Alternatively you could say:
In our opinion, the episodes described are most consistent with ophthalmic migraine, also because this disorder is frequently hormonally mediated and the patient is currently experiencing menarche.

A third option would be:
In our opinion, the episodes described are most consistent with ophthalmic migraine, a disorder that is frequently hormonally mediated, and hence the temporal association with the menarche in this patient further corroborates this suspicion.

You get my drift. :=)

Take your pick, or construct another alternative now that you have the sentence paraphrased!
