However, optical transmission systems with coherent detection and optical amplification on the link or in front of the receiver are no longer shot-noise limited, but limited by the amplifier noise. Then, the dominant noise component usually is the LO-ASE noise, as discussed in Sect. 3.3.2 and shown in [3].
