Curriculum Vitae

Actually, many people confuse CV, or curriculum vitae ("жизнеописание", "биография", as my colleague has already said above) with a resume. They really look alike in many aspects, though there are still some differences.

A typical CV contains more personal details than a resume: your marital status, date and place of birth, etc. All this personal information is optional in resumes.

Moreover, many believe that a CV is preferred by the British, while a resume is preferred in the US. Based on my personal experience, I can say that what they use in the US is really more often called a resume than a CV.

Just another comment: in case you want to give an exact Russian translation of this word (\"CV\") it is better to use the word \"резюме\" (\"resume\") instead of the word \"биография\" (\"biography\"). The matter is that \"биография\" in Russian and in the Russian environment does not look like \"CV\" at all: it should include many details that are typically absent in a CV (\"происхождение\", etc.).

So if you need a translation, not general understanding, my ultimate variant would be \"резюме\" even though a resume and a CV are slightly different.
