Catalan term

aparadors

Catalan to English Law/Patents Real Estate
The text says:

"Es prohibeix a l'arrendatari: col•locar rètols, anuncis o banderoles i aparadors a la façana de l'immoble."

I can't imagine that this would be "shop windows" as surely that would entail knocking through a wall to create them. Does it mean, simply, not to put displays in the window? Or not to use the windows as "shop windows"?

Thanks for any guidance!

@Wordup I've just asked a native Catalan and he agrees with us :)

showcases

According to my paper dictionary, it can also mean 'Obra de vidre, fusta, etc., que guarneix la part de davant d'una botiga i permet l'exposició de mercaderies.'

It's just occurred to me that it could refer to the glass cases some restaurant owners put on the walls of their establishments to display the menu.

I also think I remember seeing similar showcases on shop façades in the centre of Barcelona. They were screwed onto the wall and contained samples of whatever it was the place sold.

I chose 'showcases' because that is the definition in the glosbe dictionary, but when I was researching the term, I also used 'display cases', which might be a better term for cases that are in the street!

'Showcases' are usually found inside buildings.
Note from asker:
Hi Helena. Many thanks for all your good thinking... I think know the display cases you're talking about. When I lived there, I passed an amazing very old-fashioned underwear shop close to Pl Universitat, which had big glass cases showing the largest examples of the least-sexy men's and women's underwear imaginable! Always made me chuckle... I reckon that's what they mean: display cases. Thanks very much for persevering!

agree Berni Armstrong : I'd go for "Display cases" here too.
