Catalan term

ICU

Catalan to English Medical Medical (general)
Followed by a 10-digit number and included in a list of patient's details at the beginning of a hospital report. In English, the likeliest reading would be "intensive care unit", but is that identical term used in Spain?

Discussion

Tony Isaac May 16, 2011:
The Catalan equivalent is UCI (unitat de cures intensives) but medical texts often use a mish-mash of abbreviations in Catalan/English

ICU

It should be UCI in Catalan "Unitat de cures intensives", but English abbreviations are often used
Peer comment(s):

disagree Samuel Sebastian Holden Bramah : In this case it is not Intensive Care Unit. It Identificador de Código Único and is used in some Autonomías where healthcare is transferred (Such as Catalonia and the Valencian community), it is followed by a long-ish number.
