Bueno, en México multa se refiere a una pena económica que hay que pagar por una infracción a la ley. Fianza, puede ser, o bien una garantía para el cumplimiento de un contrato, o una garantía para obtener la libertad (bajo fianza)

When a person involved in an auto accident is found to be the one that caused the accident, and depending on other factors, that person is arrested, taken to jail and "booked", depending on the police charges, which in this case seem to be "state charges" judging by the amount of the bond, that person, upon being "booked" or processed into jail, is allowed to make 2 calls. They normally call loved ones asking them to "bail" them out. Since not too many people keep $10,000 cash with them, they call a "bailbondsman". A bailbondsman normally charges 10% down payment of the total amount of bond. That's why most people prefer to go through a bail bond agency. The amount of bail varies depending on the charges. Judging by this steep amount of $10,000 it normally means serious charges like: DUI (Driving Under The Influence, possession of CDS (Controlled Substances), eluding police, possession of CDS within 1000' of school or park, child endengerment, etc. Any combination of these and many other serious charges will add up to $10,000. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it is not "police bail bond". Only a bail bond due to charges brought on by the arresting police officer.

: Exactamente. El importe de la fianza. Claro que hay fianza en caso de accidentes de automóviles, todo depende de la gravedad y de si se lo llevan a uno detenido, aunque no es la policía quien pone la fianza sino el juez que encuentre causa probable. ¿No?
