証拠金取引における分別保管は、証券取引法で謳われているものと意味が異なります。つまり、外為証拠金取引の「証拠金の分別保管」とは、証券会社の不測の事態に備えるための預り金という意味ではなく、価格の急激な変動によって顧客（取引の当事者）が被る差損をカバーするための担保を確保する手段を講じるということになります。したがって、この場合の証拠金は委託証拠金（i.e. margin）でしょう。
