It's probably not "Kashubian" :)
I'll have to put "illegible".
Radovan Pletka Aug 21, 2023:
Illegible works as well and is really fast (smile)

I would not take the job if the customer is not able to answer a question. Gool luck and I hope you have good liability insurance (smile)
Dylan Edwards (asker) Aug 21, 2023:
Thank you for your comments. The place of birth is given as Bratislava.
The document is recent (August last year).
Radovan Pletka Aug 21, 2023:
Try a bit of history Zakarpatska nebo karpatska (narodnost), if the person was born at that part of Czechoslovakia between the 1st and 2nd world war. What document you are translating and how old it is? That pic is as good as a winter coat for a dead translator.
Stuart Hoskins Aug 20, 2023:
My first reaction (and that of my Czech wife) was: that's a signature (the way Czech and Slovak women just - the way I see it - scribble nonsense and then end it with a flourishingly long accent above the "a"; female Czech and Slovak readers please take that with the humour intended). Assuming it's not a wayward signature, and I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious, are there any other clues (place of birth)?
Dylan Edwards (asker) Aug 20, 2023:
It looks vaguely like "Karpat..."??

The part of the country, if that's relevant, is Pezinok.

This pretty much seems like the local cursive, albeit very sloppy. I am almost certain the word is starting with "sl".
Note from asker:
The "s" and the "l" are so squashed together!
Peer comment(s):

agree Lirka : That's what it looks like to me, too

agree Jan Ramza : Most likely given the region and place of birth. Going letter by letter, only the first one and penultimate one seem questionable to me. It does not resemble any other nationalities normally present in Czechia or Slovakia such as "moravská".
