Of course an advanced technique in resistance training, is to use a supra-maximal load (e.g. >1RM) and perform negative repetitions, where persons might apply force to resist the load, but be performing an ECC repetition since their force production is lower than that of the load. Ultimately this might best be considered in terms of intent.
