Discussion

thefastshow Jan 23, 2023:
To phil and Gleims etc.;elaboration on my response "Bei IL sind die gewünschten Sortimente "baumfallende Längen", "Kranlängen-Baum" oder. "Kranlängen-Krone" zu markieren." - indicates that there are different lengths logs get cut to (or not cut to)
Baumfallend means generally the whole tree minus the crown (top), then there are Kranlängen which could be anything between 7-10 metres. - google it! Baumfallend is generally anything above 8 m. Depending on the length of the individual tree - these can differ ( https://www.wald-rlp.de/de/nutzen/holz/holzarten/ - " ... sowie als Kranlängen mit 4 bis 7 Meter Länge oder baumfallend ab 8 Meter Länge,...")
The English equivalent only allows for WT or TL in this instance regarding to baumfällend. If you read the link(s) given in my answer you will understand the difference as to why WT or TL here.
I tend to think these days in German forests there is mainly Harvester action to be seen and then the forwarder pulls these trees to the pick up point. Some of the "harvested" trees are 40 m ! ...and they get them out. Sometimes, depending on the order the Harvester cuts the stems into shorter 3-4m length for those fire wood friends, then there are industry orders 20m plus etc.etc.

Thanks Johannes. Sadly no more context really
Johannes Gleim Jan 22, 2023:

ENGLISH:
WT = Whole Tree; TL = Tree Length

Most likely TL would be applicable here.

neutral philgoddard : Maybe, but your first reference is to a 98-page report, and I can't see how you get from "baumfallend" to "tree length".

Oh well, but you did realize the abbreviations list, right? bf stands not for boyfriend - please check page 26.Reading educates and this is well needed here, bcz forestry is tricky: different terms depending on method/technology(machines) etc..
