Swedish term

uppdragsutbildning

Swedish to English Marketing Business/Commerce (general)
This is a document from a cleaning company describing what training their staff have undergone. It appears alongside words such as "säkerhetsrutiner", "grundutbildning i städkunskap" "HLR utbildning" etc. I just can't work out what uppdragsutbildning would mean? Thanks!

Christopher Schröder Nov 7, 2020:
Adrian, the only person speculating is you. The term means training provided for an external client. Fact.
Anna Herbst Nov 7, 2020:
Covid-19 In this day and age of the corona virus, cleaning has become more important than ever, so it would not surprise me at all if cleaning companies commissioned contract education through tertiary institutions to ensure their employees have a good understanding of the new working conditions.
SafeTex Nov 7, 2020:
@ Adrian and all Well, it doesn't say what level the person is at in the cleaning company but education has become big business and there are ISOs for nearly every sector

So if you visit a website like:

https://www.cityandguilds.com/qualifications-and-apprentices...

you will see different levels of training for employees at all levels in a cleaning company.

Adrian MM. Nov 7, 2020:
We need to stop speculating ... ... despite past and albeit inconclusive answers, what form of commissioned education this outsourced training of cleaners took. A referral-back to the clients is often *infeasible* but worth a shot. Note: I somehow cannot imagine the exclusively Geordie skivvies at my former school attending such courses at University.
Christopher Schröder Nov 7, 2020:
Depending on the exact context, it might be appropriate to go for something simple/vague like external courses/training or courses from external providers. Commissioned/contracted education looks at it from the point of view of the provider (colleges and universities) whereas your context is from the point of view of the cleaning company which is commissioning some kind of training from an outside party.
SafeTex Nov 7, 2020:
@ all here is a past Proz question on this:

Adrian MM. Nov 7, 2020:
SafeTex and soothsayers Despite 'contract / commissioned education' as the official and questionable Swenglish translations amongst 179,000 g/hits, this idea of 'outsourced education or training' needs to be seen outside a högskola or universitet setting and in the context of cleaning 'operatives'.
SafeTex Nov 6, 2020:
@ Adrian and all Hello

I looked at your reference and note in the second part:

Uppdragsutbildning är personalutbildning som kan vara till exempel:

Kurser skräddarsydda på beställning för en uppdragsgivaren

Öppna kurser, dvs. KI tar fram en kurs och säljer platser till företag och organisationer

Platser på universitetets befintliga kurser/program inom det ordinarie utbudet erbjuds till företag och organisationer

Seminarieserier för företag och organisationer

Verktyg för professionellt arbete

Webbaserad och interaktiv utbildning på distans

I just don't see how this can be "job placement/ on the job training". The above seems rather to confirm my reference which said "contract education", especially the first line above.

how did you come to your conclusion?

contract education

I'm rather confident due to my source, not because I fully understand this

Thanks Anna. I've also found a past Proz question (see discussion) for this term
neutral Adrian MM. : Totally meaningless Swenglish in the UK - and in Ireland, I'm afeard.

I actually "sympathize" with your comment. It is the official Swedish translation but does it work,? That is another, valid question

job-placement / 'on-the-job' / training

No, on-the-job doesn't mean what my British and Irish mates think it is, though my UK university contemporaries' 'sandwich' or industrial-stint Swedish-learning experience in the summer of det Karolinska Institutet in Stockholmnear my Frescati Uni. digs (many more anecdotes to follow) - see the web ref. - would suggest otherwise.

Example sentence:

Job Placement Training is our globally-recognized core model. Informed by partnerships with thousands of employers and world-class education experts,

Verktyg för professionellt arbete Uppdragsutbildning tillgodoser behovet av kompetensutveckling i arbetsgivarens verksamhet.

'Uppdragsutbildning är en ren affärsmässig verksamhet.'
disagree Christopher Schröder : It’s the opposite of on the job // affärsmässig means commercial, not on the job

No. It isn't and it is again facile of you to suggest such for house cleaners http://www.sbkf.se/1291 'Uppdragsutbildning är en ren affärsmässig verksamhet.' // as a non-facile translation, affärsmässig means in the course of a business.
disagree Anna Herbst : Misunderstanding of terminology. See cited references.

Job placement training doesn't exclude outsourced, commissioned training courses. Other-wise, it is unwise to guess that what form of such 'education' had been meted out to the cleaning personnel.
