acopio in smaller quantities
Please help me resolve a constant doubt. I translate often for organizations that work with small-scale producers - farmers, beekeepers, etc. Often the term "acopio" is used meaning that the community organization is collecting the (corn, wheat, alpaca fiber) during harvest/sheering time from all the organization's members (often an entire community or several nearby communities) to sell the whole lot to a buyer. I've tried "stockpiling", "bulking" and now I see "stocking" as an option. I'm just not sure which is most clearly understood in this type of situation of small-scale production.
Thanks very much!

It should be noted that this system has not been tested for small-scale grain production, which is generally stored in small bags of about 60 kg or in 200-L drums.

Gracias Margarita. Igual habría que decir "collective storage" o "organization's storage" o algo, porque sino podría ser a nivel individual o de familia. Pero podría ir por allí, con storage. Gracias. |

Out of the other suggestions so far, I think stocking and stockpiling can also work.

pooled produce
Another idea
Many marketing cooperatives operate through “pooling.” The member delivers his product to the association, which pools it with products of like grade and quality delivered by other members. After doing whatever processing is necessary, the co-op sells the products at the best price it can get and returns to the members their share of total proceeds, less marketing expenses.

Collaborative Marketing Without Pooling Products
Not all collaborative marketing efforts involve aggregating food and distributing revenues. Some farmers, like Little City Growers, run a group farmers’ market stand where they sell their produce side by side.

The produce pool is the origin of Organic Valley / CROPP Cooperative, with its roots in pooling production from family farms to collectively access the larger marketplace. Our produce program has matured into a vibrant group of cooperating farmers who proudly produce the highest quality organic vegetables. There is a rapidly growing demand for organic foods, and the greatest portion of the organic marketplace is in produce.
The produce pool has grown to serve not just regional but also the national marketplace, bringing increased opportunity for growers to participate in our program.

Naturally, a cooperative is not the only form of business which can be involved in pooling fiber or collaborating to process fiber for groups of farms.
Here is a listing of farmers cooperatives and other businesses involved with pooling alpaca fiber:

Thank you, Robert. When I posted the reference I didn't have time for further research. I think it's better to read about co-op systems and use the same vocab.

Outsourcing
Given the context this would be a proper term. As for harvesting a crop I would translate it as storing for the next step which would involve classification, packaging, labeling, etc.

Considering the very explicit text just submitted, the correct term is HARVESTING. Being a Colombian native with quite an extensive background in all matters related to coffee growing and exporting, I am familiar with the use of acopiar: to gather, collect/harvest.
Hope it helps!

An agricultural cooperative, also known as a farmers' co-op, is a cooperative where farmers pool their resources in certain areas of activity. A broad typology of agricultural cooperatives distinguishes between agricultural service cooperatives, which provide various services to their individually farming members, and agricultural production cooperatives, where production resources (land, machinery) are pooled and members farm jointly. Examples of agricultural production cooperatives include collective farms in former socialist countries, the kibbutzim in Israel, collectively governed community shared agriculture, Longo Mai co-operatives and Nicaraguan production co-operatives.

The dictionary gives "supply, store, stockpile, collection", but I think the exact choice of word will depend on who is doing it, and for what purpose. You used the word "collection" in your question, and that may be an appropriate translation.
