The remaining packing material accumulates at the discharge end. The opening of the discharge end is restricted by a hydraulic choke. The choke is a hydraulic operated sliding sleeve assembly which varies the opening of the discharge end through which the pressed material must pass. The combination of the increasing root diameter of the main shaft and the restricted choke opening reduces the volume and applies pressure to the feed material. The choke moves backwards and increases the discharge end opening to release the packing material if the pressure on the packing material exceeds the counter pressure.
