Dutch term

lamellatie

Dutch to English Medical Medical (general)
Dear Colleagues,

I have 2 problems in an anatomisch pathologisch rapport, this is the first one. Possibly this is important, "Aard van het staal : synovium," if anyone knows about this up close. Further, "Klinische gegevens : status na THP. Bursa-synovium ?" Then under macroscopie, "Gefixeerd ingezonden deels cystisch weefselfragment van 12x5x3 cm._
Aan 1 zijde is er mals geel vetweefsel. De andere zijde bestaat uit relatief vezelrijk grijsgeel glad weefsel. Op snede en bij lamellatie zijn er geen macroscopische bijzonderheden."

This is all I can show you, further there's nothing to help. I can't even find the word in Dutch, let alone English. All help is highly appreciated.

serial sectioning

On sectioning and serial sectioning, the specimen did not show any macroscopic abnormalities.

This is about macroscopic examination.

Macroscopie:
"Gefixeerd ingezonden deels cystisch weefselfragment van 12x5x3 cm.

Aan 1 zijde is er mals geel vetweefsel. De andere zijde bestaat uit relatief vezelrijk grijsgeel glad weefsel.

Op snede en bij lamellatie zijn er geen macroscopische bijzonderheden."

As I imagine it, they examine a series of macroscopic surfaces.
You systematically slice the specimen and you examine each subsequent cut surface for changes in patterns, abnormal structures, you name it.

And in this case these cut surfaces show no macroscopic abnormalities.

Examples:

All lymph nodes should be identified from the submitted specimen and carefully examined with serial sectioning in 3 - 4 mm intervals. In patients with clinical low risk of nodal metastasis, macroscopic examination may suffice.

Peter, the left image in this reference further illustrates this idea of serial sectioning in the context of macroscopy.

'serial sectioning' is a well-known term in histopathology.

Thanks a lot, Barend. Actually, I like your reference information even more than this answer. Wonder which one to use in translation ...

Een van de middenplakjes, of een deel daarvan indien het een doorsnede betreft van meer dan 2 cm, wordt ingevroren en opgeslagen in de stikstofcontainer inzendrichtlijn “vriesmateriaal” aanwezig op de OK).

This ''lamellatie", I am wondering about the English equivalent, makes me think of 'macrotome sections':

Fourteen male rabbits received single doses of 20, 40, and 80 Gy of neon irradiation with an extended Bragg peak. They were sacrificed at 1 day, 1 week, and 6 months post-irradiation. The tissue changes which showed a significant time-dose relationship were leakage of carbon particles from blood vessels, focal arachnoiditis, hemorrhage, cystic necrosis, and a total histopathologic score using a point system of grading. The focal nature of the lesions was clearly demonstrated with 2 mm thick macrotome sections. The transition zone between damaged brain and microscopically normal appearing brain was less than 1 mm and the tissue damage induced was morphologically similar to that of other radiation modalities.

[A macrotome for the sampling of frozen or fixated tissues].

The tool presented here is a cutter for systematized random sampling. The cutting by the means of parallel blades provides 2,3 mm thick sections, which are dropped automatically, avoiding any further handling for gathering them. In addition to its use in stereology, this cutter yields specimens suitable for incubation in histochemical studies.
