German term

Nester

German to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing
This is about wire drawing. Anyone have any idea what it could be? TIA! : ) to UK English

Original

Rough draft
We can’t say what happens to the wire further downstream in the client’s processes. Even defective rollers, for example, can lead to cold hardening in sections of the wire/coil helix and lead to the formation of so-called "nests" in the drawing process.

Change log

Jan 13, 2015 17:22: Lancashireman changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Steffen Walter, EK Yokohama, Lancashireman

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Thanks guys, I caught that one right after I posted it. : )
Yorkshireman Jan 13, 2015:
@Phil I agree - in fact, the whole second "lead to" could be omitted.
philgoddard Jan 13, 2015:
You've repeated "lead". The second one is unnecessary.

bird nest/bird nesting

This example from welding could provide the solution you need.

http://www.fabricatingandmetalworking.com/2011/08/troublesho...

Commonly referred to as a bird nest, the welding wire can get backed up and tangled among the drive rolls as a result of a blockage in the liner, a contact tip burn back or improperly adjusted drive rolls.

All About Wire
Wire feed stoppages and wire feed system malfunctions can adversely affect the welding arc and create irregularities that may weaken the weld bead. Bird nests -a tangle of wire that halts the wire from being fed-is a common problem. You can resolve bird nests by flipping up the drive roll and pulling the wire back out of the gun. Next, trim the affected wire and rethread it through the feeder and back to the gun. If the welding specifications allow, decrease the drive roll tension, use a larger diameter wire and reduce the distance the wire feeds to minimize the chance of bird nests.

"Drive roll tension should be adjusted so that it is not too tight, but not too loose. Start with the drive roll pressure very loose. Increase the pressure only until it is very difficult to stop the wire from feeding out of the contact tip. Use a pliers or block of wood to try and stop the wire from feeding. Go perhaps one-half of a turn beyond this point. When the wire is actually stopped, the drive rolls should spin on the wire and no bird nesting should occur."
