Ну раз вы так понимаете "verbatim", то позвольте вам сказать, что и verbatim бывает необходим. И я его часто делаю -- по прямому указанию заказчика (who knows what he's doing), и не стесняюсь этого. Например, переводя стенограммы судов. Там не до локализации, как вы понимаете.

(Если вы и в этом усмотрели insult, тогда я просто не знаю, что вам ответить.)

Кас. "убеждённости" в этом предложении, то со всей полнотой убеждённости позвольте вам сказать, что от "убеждённости" лучше отказаться и заменить чем-то другим, даже близко не похожим. "Убеждённость" должна быть в чём-то. Как и beliefs, впрочем. А этого "чего-то" здесь нет. И "convictions" это не восполнят (а вот то, что как "судимости" это может быть прочтено, я не исключаю). Challenges не встречаются с полнотой убеждённости...:-)

If I say I`m doing localization, it does not mean I`m asking YOU to do it for me! What put this idea in your head?
I know what VERBATIM is, "Cлово в слово" and "буквально" are sinonyms And it is insulting to say about my translations! Nobody has ever called my translations "verbatim"! If you have come here for insulting me, you`d better stop it, and leave me in peace!

(Я к тому, что для этого может придётся "захватывать" предложение ДО и предложение ПОСЛЕ. Это часто бывает. Ну, и, соответственно, было бы неплохо, если бы вы их приводили.

Verbatim не означает "слово-в-слово" или "пословно". :-) Скорее "буквально". :-)

ЗЫ очень хорошо, что заказчик не претендует на knowing better. Вам повезло! :-)

2). I know what localization is.
3). My translation has nothing to do with verbatim! Why do you call it verbatim? It is insulting!

4). He agrees with everything I`m saying. He has never said: "I know better!" He is just suggesting things.

And now you, please, answer my question:

Why are you giving me advice on the things I`m not asking for?
Do you mean to say I`m not as smart as you?

Английскую версию. Я её "локализую".
Поясню на примере из моей практике. Когда мне подкидывают безнадёгу (я имею в виду eё effectiveness после перевода as is, verbatim), и при вдобавок этом аффтap always knows better, я или отказываюсь (несмотря ни на какие деньги) или предлагаю это "локализовать" -- пусть даже себе в ущерб (локализация чертовски time-consuming process).

И если это невозможно в вашем случае, The Misha is right. Take the money and RUN. The sensitive artistic personality deserves it.

This entire sentence is totally wrong for the purpose if translated more or less verbatim. A native would say something to the effect of "We are ready and willing to take any challenge that comes our way" and it would do the job fair and square. I am not a great fan of the word "transcreation," but that's exactly the case here. However, if this client of yours is as stuck up as you say he is give him exactly what he wants (and what he seems to deserve), take the money and RUN.

Though I agree with you all, guys, I`m pretty sure this client won`t like "confidence". He knows this word. He is after something more emotionally stronger, more "bombastic".
