Russian term

epokha vysokoy neftyanoy kon

Russian to English Other Other
Ходорковский – символ. Политический символ. Символ эпохи высокой нефтяной конъюнктуры. Символ путинской эры политической истории России.

My friend thinks this just means "high oil prices", but I think that the phrase vysokaya diplomatiya is being glanced at, and the phrase is broader in meaning (something like "era dominated by oil magnates/powerful oil barons/struggle for control of petrodollars").

time of high oil prices

I wouldn't use 'era' as it is used in the next sentence, and 'age' is too long.

era of oil magnates' opportunism

There's a Russian word "конъюнктурщик". It means opportunist, time-server and has a negative connotation. I think конъюнктура is used here in the meaning of "time of oil opportunists", when oil magnates were allowed too much, Khodorkovski's arrest marking the end of this time.
