Z tekstu o architekturze cerkwi drewnianych. Izbica, z tego co zdążyłem się zorientować, to chyba "chamber", ewentualnie "bell chamber", jeśli chodzi o dzwonnicę. Nie wiem, czy idę dobrym tropem. Nadal nie wiem, jak zgrabnie ująć wyrażenie "wieża izbicowa". Tutaj: www.malopolskie.pl/Pliki/2006/drewniana-promocyjna.pdf znalazłem tłumaczenie "chambered tower", ale po pierwsze pochodzi ono z polskiej witryny, więc podchodzę do niego z nieufnością, a po drugie "chambered tower" za bardzo kojarzy mi się z wieżą, w której na kolejnych poziomach wydzielone są po prostu pokoje lub komnaty, a nie o to tu chodzi.

or "belfry" would be OK.
If "chambered tower" (in the reference document) is used specifically to refer to a specific type of tower with the cantilevered structure underneath the roof (as shown in the reference document), as distinct from an ordinary tower that doesn't have one, then I would use "chambered tower" to keep the distinction. But as far as I know, bell-towers usually have chambers (Iand are not hollow all the way through), so the word "chamber" is generally redundant.

The problem is that "wieża izbicowa" is not a bell tower in the strict sense, because bells were not always kept there, but a tower with the so-called "izbica", which is a chamber on the tower's uppermost tier. So it seems we have to look for something more specific than a bell tower. |
