trace (evidence) analysis

Well it *is* only a guess, but I haven't yet found anything concrete along the lines of "traceological/traseological" etc. in dictionaries or elsewhere which looks likely. There is the French word "tracéologique", which is briefly mentioned in this item about archaeology:

http://www.ed398.upmc.fr/RUBRIQUE_3/resume1.htm

So if "traseologic" has the same meaning (and I honestly don't know if it does, but it seems reasonably likely), it could also mean simply "trace analysis"... there is also a similar word in Russian ("trassologichesky") which Multitran defines as "trace evidence analysis". Perhaps they are analysing chemical traces on the document (watermarks, ink etc.) to determine whether it is genuine?

The Romanian term seems to relate not only to documents:

"Expertiza traseologica privind identificarea urmelor cauzale si a urmelor ramase pe imbracaminte si pe corpul cadavrelor..."
http://www.legmed.ro/servicii-tarife.php

That sounds very much like trace analysis to me.

agree Lucica Abil (X) : Peter, ai dreptate tu.
