Hi all,

Could you please recommend me an intensive English course to be attended in England?

What are your experiences so far?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Kind regards,
Sherefedin

As you probably already know, there are many commercial English-language courses of the type you're looking for. However, I think a university course would have more credibility. The University of Westminster (one of the UK's best universities) runs courses in spoken English for non-native English speakers.

I have no personal experience of these courses but I would expect the University of Westminster to teach to a very high level. Here's a link: http://www.wmin.ac.uk/sshl/page-864

I hope this helps !

Click on the green "Students" icon, you then have access to another screen with a treasure trove of information: Course Search, Study Options, Where in the UK and others. My personal advice is to choose a course far away from the big urban centres, as you are less likely to find people who speak your own language and who may discourage you from speaking English. In the case of Brazilians, this means keep away from London and the South Coast. Choose a less touristy spot like Cheltenham, for example - very few foreign tourists as far as I am aware. I'm not sure if all schools offer one-to-one tuition, check this out on the site or by contacting each school individually.

Studying English in the UK is definitely an excellent idea. According to the site above, here are 10 good reasons:

1. The biggest range of English language courses in the world

2. A worldwide reputation for academic excellence

3. Qualifications that are recognised and valued all over the world

4. Accredited courses that offer great value for money

5. A rich history and culture

6. Lots of opportunities for further study or career progression

7. The chance to study and work if you want

8. The opportunity to make friends from all over the world

9. Good travel links around the UK and into Europe

10. It's the birthplace and home of the English language
