Hello All:

I paid my Premium Plus membership yesterday in the hopes of having ProZ help me build a website but there appears to be some kind of bug and I do not have access to the Premium Plus forum or other features. I contacted Support over a day ago and have not yet received a response (ProZ Support staff used to respond so quickly, has this changed?).

I am just wondering from others who have paid for the Premium Plus membership if you have found it worth the money.

You can build a website yourself for a fraction of the ProZ.com Premium Plus Ultra Platinum VIP™ cost. It's also not very prudent to lay all your eggs in one basket. Just saying.

NameSilo and Porkbun are great places to buy domain names. For web hosting, many seem to have great experience with A2 Hosting. But I had some issues with them. Currently trying to find an alternative.

What do you mean by "laying all my eggs in one basket?" A website is just one method of marketing, certainly I need to use other channels as well.

You're trusting ProZ.com to do all the marketing for your freelance translation business. If one day ProZ.com shuts down, what would you do?

Building your own website isn't that difficult nowadays. See my recommendations above. They're fairly affordable.

That's incorrect as far as I understand. I paid for a year and as far as I am told, once they create the website I will own it completely. Staff said it will take about one month to create. So after the year is up, I can cancel if I choose and still retain the website.

This website is falling apart. Would you trust them to handle yours?

I wouldn't. But you do you.

If it's only for the website, go with the Plus max Feb 19

I agree that having your website built by ProZ is not a good way to go - if you decide to stop paying for the premium membership, your website will most likely stop working after the membership ends, or you'll have to handle the domain and content transfer.
Perhaps there are other benefits from the membership that are worth paying for, but surely not the website. There are plenty of services out there that allow you to build your own website with pre-designed modules that you can customise

Staff Feb 19

Proz staff has been very silent lately. I honestly wonder how many staff members there still are. Staff members that were quite active on the Proz Facebook page have either left Proz (at least one of them did, Susan) or seem to have disappeared. It doesn't look good and that might be an understatement.

Is ProZ.com copying Apple now?
