This time we have 39 pages (EN+PT or ES/PT) to be translated by Friday (this week). Translators are not miracle workers…

How many words per page ? 300 ? You posted this at 1 p.m. Perfectly doable for Friday noon if I wouldn't have any other work (again: if no more than 300 words per page on average).

The ad was posted at 11.03 a.m. and I don't know how quick is their selection procedure...

That's not what it says.

Our client insists on working exclusively with translators who hold proof of C2 level language certification in the source language and are native speakers of the target language. Examples of C2 proficiency level certifications include Cambridge English Proficiency, DELF/DALF, TOEFL, and similar qualifications. Language studies or translation degrees are also acceptable."

Question to moderators: Should this be allowed on Proz?

I think you misread it. They do want native speakers. Rate is a little low to be fair but not shockingly so.

A bit higher than what Indian agencies offer.

I’ve just seen an ad for a legal translation EN/PT: 90,000 words to be done in 3 days! Really? I don’t comment on the “offered” rate as I understand that prices vary a lot around the world…

And in the meantime, this job has already been closed...
Even if the agency splits up the texts to be translated by several translators, the result will always be catastrophic. It's doomed from the start!
This shows how much value some people place on translators and translation!
Balancing speed with quality is always a consideration in any professional service, including translation, but this is insane.

I think the problem here lies where a desperate agency is involved. Any experienced agency should know very well that they cannot handle 90,000 words of translation in 3 days unless they divide the texts among several translators.

Do the math: charging the client 20 Euro cents per word and paying the translators 10 Euro cents per word. 20 x 90,000 words would be 18,000 Euros. Earning this amount in just in 3 days! How sweet. Who could refuse this kind of an offer?

9 usd per hour... Apr 27

From a direct email message from an LSP based in India:

In this task, resources are required to
generate instructions for a machine learning per locale on the
different categories provided. It means, to Compose question &
answer in their native language following the guidelines provided
by customers.

it - IT ( Italian )
Rate is 9 USD Per hour

After taxes, this comes down to 5-6 usd.
The positive thing is: whith these rates, the AI technology behind chat bots has still a long way to go to become good.

I'm based in the UK, and 60 USD for 8 hours would be well below the legal minimum wage in the UK.
Minimum wage in the UK is 8.60 GBP/hour for ages 18-20, and £11.44 per hour for anyone who is 21+.
I just checked these rates on GOV.UK.

Also, from these rates we must deduct all the taxes (employer level, employee level, national insurance and any other mandatory taxes that might apply). So the net pay is much lower.

This job can not be done legally in the UK. At all. Period.
It must be done somewhere else. I don't know if these pay rates are legal in Italy (I strongly doubt it but I don't know).

It wouldn't be illegal in Italy (there's still no universal minimum wage!, and freelancers decide autonomously anyway), but you wouldn't be able to make a living from it.
Most of all, I wonder why jobs like that can be published here on ProZ.
