I have experienced a few problems with Trados 6.5 recently, specifically concerning translating in Word. I have experienced a few problems with Trados 6.5 recently, specifically concerning translating in Word. When translating texts that contain special characters like bullets or other characters that are not found in the standard alphabet or punctuation Trados closes the translation unit I just completed (when encountering said character), but does not open the next. Instead Trados places • {} (looks slightly different in Word, basically just a dash, open and close curly brackets and another dash) in the document right before the next translation unit.
After this it is not possible to continue to translate in this document as Trados simply indicates 'Previous request not finished'.
If I run Fix Document it does not solve the problem. Also, if I want to clean up and update the document up to the point where I got stuck it gives me an error message, but it does allow me to clean up the document without updating.
Is there perhaps somewhere that I should indicate to Trados that it should ignore any special characters or does it sound like I have an error in my program? ▲ Collapse

Hi Johan, Search for "curly brackets" - you should find quite a few threads on this issue (also on TW_users).
Is term recognition active? If yes, does the problem persist if you deactivate term recognition?
Best, Ralf

Hi Ralf,
It never crossed my mind to search for curly brackets, sorry. I searched through the forums and came across the topic when it was discussed earlier on. I tried all the solutions offered by Jerzy Czopik, but unfortunately none of them worked. I converted the document to rtf format as he suggested as a final solution and am now translating it in TagEditor.
Thank you very much and thank you Jerzy, should you read this by chance.
