Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): writeaway

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Alcohol should be consumed in moderation

A commonly-used option. Googles heavily.

agree Helen Shiner : Though clearly we don't have such admonitory labels on wine in the UK - or if we do, I never spend time reading them!

il en va de même pour l'absinthe (on ajoute après : "the abuse of alcohol is dangerous for your health", "drink moderately")

neutral polyglot45 : mais cela pue la traduction ! sorry but they clearly didn't pay anybody to get a proper translation !

We all know that those champagne producers are in a difficult situation these days, the bankers are unemployed! or they just thought they would save a buck by outsourcing to a low paid freelancer!
agree Enza Longo : yes - I found this on an article on Alcohol Policy: "French magazines ads are restricted and must bear this health warning: "The abuse of alcohol is dangerous for health: consume in moderation."
37 mins
neutral Tony M : In Enza's ref., the citation clearly calls for a direct, literal translation; but for more general use, I think cultural adaptation is required.

dangerous in excess

wine was beneficial and led to pleasurable experiences, but in excess it was dangerous, both for the individual and for society

actually it seems like they simply use "drink with moderation"
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : I think 'detrimental' is too big a word for G/P warnings; cf. tobacco: "Smoking damages your health"

excessive consumption

that's how they seem to translate it here:

We are proud to present our new program “Le Diplôme de Sommellerie Le Cordon Bleu”, an integral component of gastronomy. In the culinary world, wine is an asset. Today, a carefully selected wine menu is important for the reputation of a restaurant....

NOTE: Excessive consumption of alcohol is dangerous to your health. Please consume in moderation.

neutral Helen Shiner : Sounds like a wild animal - if you shout at it, it might bite you. I can't imagine this on a wine label.

neutral writeaway : never abuse your booze-it could take a nip out of you

neutral Tony M : I tend to agree with HS and W/A: although we do talk about 'drug/alcohol abuse', it sounds odd if used in this stand-alone fashion
