French term

averse de design

French to English Tech/Engineering Mining & Minerals / Gems
Hello! This is a mining term; probably from a Canadian company. It is from a translation test, so the broader context is unavailable.

The sentence is as follows:

I am actually looking at 3 tests for a colleague to see which translator has done the best job. There are two possible translations done by those who have taken the test.

These are: Traducteur 1 : design shower
Traducteur 2 : design storm

Any light you could shed on this would be very gratefully received! I have put this term into Proz and through Linguee with no results, and have also googled it and I haven`t seen it coming up as a term at all.

Thank you!

Discussion

Guy Bray Jul 7, 2012:
Déverse? I never heard of 'averse de design' in mining, but could this be water from water dumped into the tailings dam, or sprayed onto it to lay dust?
Lisa Maldonado (asker) Jul 6, 2012:
Here are the couple of paragraphs....I guess when I said no other context, I meant, no idea what type of mine, what the name of the whole document is, etc.

Is there really no other context? Were they just asked to translate this paragraph?
Either way, neither has produced a meaningful translation - they should have included a note saying they weren't clear what it meant.

runoff from the design

from the context, I wonder if this is runoff caused by the design involved. I didn't find anything concrete either however.

agree philgoddard : I'm 95% sure this is what it means. It's being contrasted with precipation that falls from the sky.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, this does make a lot of sense. Thanks to everyone else who posited a theory! "

snowfall from the cable car

"design" is very occasionally used for a "cabine de téléphérique".

So what might an "averse" be in that presumed context?

I imagine I'm being way too creative here :-)

design downpour

I'm quite stumped by what design is, but this is my best guess.

In a mine the water comes from the earth above and is drained in the galeries.
this water comes from rain or natural sources existing in the earth

Too smart to believe! You'd better check Proz's decision to WAKE UP!
