French term

Contrôle Technique des Autoroutes

French to English Other Construction / Civil Engineering motorways
For a concessio of a service area on a French motorway, I understand this is some sort of inspection service for roadworthiness or compliance with road regulations etc but although I'm going to use the French term, wanted to enclose a UK equivalent term or explanation in brackets, help much appreciated thanks

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): mchd

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

where is this for UK? Or maybe just lkeep it more general and use Motorway/Highway Control Body?

The HA or Highways Agenvy has set up regional control centres RCCs and also use HA Traffic Officers to patrol

The HA does regulate these areas as Clive says but you could also keep the source term and translate it. In fact you could keep "autoroute" throughout this document and explain it on first occurrence.

Contrôle Technique des Autoroutes (the Autoroute monitoring body)

agree Clive Phillips : The Highways Agency regulates motorway service areas in the UK on behalf of the Department for Transport: http://www.highways.gov.uk/our-road-network/managing-our-roa...

Many thanks Clive!
neutral B D Finch : I think it is a mistake to use the name of the Highways Agency (which is responsible not just for motorways, but for strategic A roads too) and has no role at all in product marketing for service stations, only with defined road safety issues.

It's not about "marketing" but monitoring and ensuring compliance esp.with alcohol sales. I also said a more general term could be used. Perhaps best to keep source term with translation in brackets
