Once FSNL is reached, the unit should be synchronized as soon as possible. Extended operation at FSNL can lead to asymmetric heating and distortion of the HPIP shell and N2 packing casing. HPIP shell and packing casing distortion can result in radial rub induced vibration. During hot starts where reheat steam temperatures are near rated conditions, operation at FSNL for extended periods can result in elevated L-1 steam temperatures and elevated LP exhaust temperatures. Elevated LP exhaust temperatures will cause the hood sprays to come on. Operation at full speed with hood sprays on for extended periods may accelerate erosion damage to last stage buckets
