French term

carnet métrologique

French to English Tech/Engineering Petroleum Eng/Sci Gas meters
The term appears in the specifications for gas meters.

"Le *carnet métrologique* RFID se présente sous la forme d’un tag RFID (voir Annexe 1 : Présentation de la technologie RFID) et contient toutes les informations décrites dans l’article annexe 2 de l’Arrêté du 21 octobre 2010 relatif aux compteurs de gaz combustible."

Linguee translates it as "metrological logbook," but I am not convinced.

All suggestions are welcome.

Discussion

philgoddard Dec 13, 2014:
It doesn't matter that it gets relatively few Google hits. It seems a logical translation.
Marco Solinas (asker) Dec 13, 2014:
To: Phil Thank you. I know what it contains: all the information concerning the meter (manufacturers, maintenance history, calibrations...). My problem is how to render it in English. Metrological (or metrology) logbook returns very few hits.
philgoddard Dec 13, 2014:
It sounds like metrology logbook, but have you looked up the decree? That should clarify it.

See the additional context in the discussion box. They are required by law to keep records of meter readings and inspections.

"Legal metrology concerns activities which result from statutory requirements and concern measurement, units of measurement, measuring instruments and methods of measurement and which are performed by competent bodies."

Logbook seems the perfect translation for "carnet", which implies a book or pages bound together in some other way.

You could even just say "logbook": since it relates to meters, you don't really need to say "metrology".
