French to English Medical Medical (general)
Bonjour,

Je suis en train de traduire une lettre médicale et je ne suis pas certain de ce que veut dire "par place". Voici le contexte:

La tumeur est très hétérogène avec des zones évoquant un cystadénome mucineux, des zones évoquant une tumeur mucineuse borderline, par place avec carcinome intra épithélial.

Les termes médicaux...ça va.

Est-ce que quelqu'un peut m'aider?

Incidentally I had no specific reason for suggesting that this expression might be Canadian French other than its apparently English-sounding quaintness :)

Thanks for the link Nathalie. I had never heard it before either. Not sure if the author is from Canada, but at least for now, he works in Lyon. So, I assume it is France French that he is using. In any case, mystery solved.

But I agree that the possibility of a badly written original exists.
Never heard of "par place" or "par places", though. Maybe it is Canadian French, as Carol suggests.

Especially if it's Canadian French? Or maybe something along the same lines such as "patches of..." or "areas of ..."?

Non-medical specialist's suggestion! Could it simply be an alternative for 'par endroit' — 'in places'?
