Discussion

nweatherdon Dec 13, 2014:
I think stepwise is more commonly used here, but I never have a strong opinion if the equations aren't shown.

Sorry - It looks like the last half of my question got clobbered by a grinch - probably the same one that stole Christmas! Here is the last sentence of the paragraph in full: L’analyse multivariée a été réalisée par régression logistique pas à pas descendante (backward elimination).
My question was: Could I translate this last sentence as "Multivariate analysis was performed by backward elimination logistic regression."
Or as (after seeing Bohy's answer): Multivariate analysis was performed by descending stepwise logistic regression (backward elimination).

The source is a thesis written by a doctor in Nantes France who is trying for a degree is specialized medicine.
Again, I apologize for the incomplete description.

@ Asker Please could you show us in the source language just how / where your source term is being used?

Backward elimination

Most commonly. But, without source, who knows.

The additional context corresponds exactly to what I said. But as njweatherdon says, without some of the Math, it's hard to know what's best. "descending stepwise logistic regression" is certainly possible, however "descending stepwise logistic regression (backward elimination)" would be tautological.

descending stepwise (regression)

En général ceci qualifie une méthode de régression. Si c'est autre chose, je donne ma langue au chat.

Je trouve que c'est quand même très fort de nous donner ces quelques mots et un contexte qui ne leur correspond pas !
