As I am not a lawyer, I like to check legal bits with people who are (or are experienced legal translators).
It is the last bit of this sentence that I need help with.
I think it means, in this context, 'in order to avoid punishment under French law...' ? Also, I am looking for a concise way of finishing that sentence.
Here it is (from a clause on website copyright):
Si un lien amenait l'utilisateur à pointer vers des contenus illicites, en infraction à la loi française, l'utilisateur devrait alors interrompre sa consultation du site concerné, sauf à encourir les sanctions prévues par la législation française et à répondre des actions en justice initiées à son encontre.
