Are you talking about having a more even age distribution of trees within a stand or leaving some areas standing as opposed to clear cut?

Context might indicate this has something to do with achieving an uneven-aged stand ("peuplement inequiens" in technical parlance) -- this in connection with the "îlots de senescence".

In reference to the discussion and your research :
even-aged stand : peuplement équien
uneven-aged stand : peuplement inéquien

The "irregularity" probably relates to the age of trees, not the "heterogenous" mix of tree species in the stand (which would be "favoriser la plurispécificité de certains peuplements" instead of "irrégularisation")
