French term

accumulateur à plots

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
Patent concerned with accumulators.

"Un assemblage peut consister en une mise en série électrique d’accumulateurs à plots, par un empilement d’accumulateurs définis ci-dessus dans lequel les plots de polarité inverse entre deux accumulateurs adjacents sont en contact."

"Un autre assemblage peut consister en une mise en parallèle électrique d’accumulateurs à plots, par une rangée d’accumulateurs définis ci-dessus, dans lequel les plots de même polarité sont reliés entre eux par une barrette de connexion électrique."

My searching and googling brought up one hit: this patent. I can find no evidence of an EN term like "contact accumulator". I'm wondering (Tony, are you out there...!!) whether by analogy with "commutateur à plots" it might translate to "multipoint accumulator" (3 hits on google) or some such.

There's a diagram or 2... these are simple pieces, little square things, with two tabs, one marked "+" and the other "-", sticking out.

thanks yes, you're right of course. This text talks of "batteries" (i.e. in the FR) as well as "accumulateurs", the former sometimes being an example of the latter, sometimes an assembly of the latter. Maybe I've been googling up the wrong tree though, point taken!

Although we tend to think of an "accumulator" as a big lead-acid thing, in FR it can mean simply a rechargeable battery, as small as (or smaller than) an AAA size. I have no idea about what your patent does, but given that a "plot" is a pin or spigot, it could simply mean a small cylindrical rechargeable battery (or even a capacitor).

battery with flat contact terminals

The word "plot" is used in the electrical contacts industry to refer to the conducting pad that makes contact with another electrode (maybe another "plot"). In the present contact, the type of terminal is distinguished from screwtype or other types of terminals:

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery_terminal

The 6th figure down shows "plots"

thanks... makes sense
